AAG 2021: The Transformative Power of Human Rights Rhetoric: Catholic Talk and Liberation Theology Discourse in Ukraine and Hong Kong

My collaborator Halyna Herasym (Ukrainian Catholic University) and I presented some preliminary findings from our project ‘Catholic talk, social dreaming: civil society discourse in Ukraine and Hong Kong’ at the American Association of Geographers yesterday. Our talk was titled ‘The Transformative Power of Human Rights Rhetoric: Catholic Talk and Liberation Theology Discourse in Ukraine and Hong Kong.’ It was in a session organized by Alana Seaman (University of North Carolina at Wilmington) titled Adapting to Social Turbulence in a Changing World, sponsored by the Media and Communication Geography Specialty Group.

Halyna and I spoke about the framework of our project in Ukraine and Hong Kong. We also discussed our interests in liberation theology in what might be seen as a post-Marxist world. We’re excited to be continuing to work on our project and hope to have more updates as they come.
